Seafloor Spreading
Seafloor spreading is the process that occurs at mid ocean ridges. New oceanic crust occurs after a volcano due to seafloor spreading. Earlier theories are that continental drift plowed through the seafloor. The theory that is well accepted now is that it is caused by convection currents.
