Wire gauze and Clay triangle

The wire gauze is placed over the ring clamp on the ring stand in order to have a flat surface for heating substances inside flasks or beakers.

A clay triangle sits on top of the ring clamp and provides just enough space inside a crucible can sit in the triangle to be heated. This keeps the crucible from falling through the holes and breaking and it prevents having to hold the crucible over the bunsen burner.
